General overview:
This vehicle is an exceptional model year with a unique combination of features that were first made available on the 1800 series in 1970. Only 4,750 units were produced during this year representing approximately 10% of all 1800 production from 1961-1973. The exterior is British Racing Green (BRG) with a tan leather interior. This is widely considered the best colour combination for an 1800 and evokes the look and appeal of a classic 1960’s Gran Tourismo. The vehicle appeal is further enhanced by a number of strategic mechanical, handling, exterior and interior upgrades. The vehicle has 60,000 original miles. The current owner (since 1977) has never driven the car during winter, foul weather or used the car as a daily use vehicle. The car has never been in an accident or damaged by hail. This vehicle has been extremely well-maintained and protected by a garage for the past 38 years.
Mechanical Overview:
Everything mechanical works on the vehicle and it is in excellent running condition. The 4 cylinder engine is fuel injected ( BOSCH-D tronic) and is mated with a 4-speed manual transmission with BOSCH electronic overdrive. The rebuilt engine develops 145 bhp and has less than 30,000 service miles. The engine bay is clean and a HD black alloy IPD valve cover provides visual interest. Exhaust modifications include IPD headers and an ANSA free-flow exhaust system. The exhaust note for the vehicle has a sporty resonance that truly enhances the driving sensation.
Handling Features:
The handling of the car has been significantly upgraded with the installation of front and rear heavy-duty IPD stabilizer bars, KYB gas shocks and 205/60/SR 15 MICHELIN EP-X SPORT tires mounted on 15” MSW alloy mags.
Exterior Features:
This 1970 1800E has an exceptional front grill design with a B-20 grill badge and a large Volvo front nose emblem. The exterior features MSW diamond cut alloy mags, wide profile MICHELIN tires and twin ANSA exhaust pipes. All exterior chrome trim and brightwork is in excellent condition.
Interior Features:
The car has an interior that is in exceptional condition with no UV damage to seats, carpets or upholstery. The interior features a 15” black leather NARDI 3-spoke steering wheel and a MOMO leather shift knob. The front seats and side arm rests were custom reupholstered with tan leather and are in excellent condition. All original tan door panels, rear seat, headliner and carpeting are in excellent condition. The dash is in excellent condition with no UV damage or cracks, all original SMITHS gauges are functional (with the exception of the clock which remains in-dash). All interior controls, knobs and levers are in excellent condition and fully functional. The sound system was upgraded in the 1980’s and includes a period-authentic PIONEER analogue AM-FM-cassette deck with dual rear mounted speakers. The transmission tunnel is covered by a factory storage system (tray and covered box). The interior climate control system includes fully functional factory air.

Additional Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Parts:
For the enthusiast, this vehicle is being sold with an inventory of OEM engine, transmission, electrical, ignition and trim parts. The OEM package includes a complete disassembled B-20 engine (block, head, intake + exhaust manifolds, SU carburetors, oil pan, oil pump, valve cover, crankshaft, camshaft, pistons, lifters, rods, timing gear etc) and transmission (90% of all gears, complete BOSCH OD unit, complete clutch kit) as well as electrical / ignition system components (alternator, distributor assembly, ignition coil, voltage regulator). All heavy parts are disassembled and stored in a custom fabricated HD wood crate that can be easily prepped for shipment. The crate is outfitted with HD casters providing a tidy storage system that allows for ease of movement in the shop or garage. The OEM package also includes brightwork and trim parts consisting of a factory sealed set of 6 side chrome moldings + clips, L + R door rain gutter chrome moldings, front amber turn indicators (2) and chrome exterior side mirrors (2) identical to those on the vehicle. The package also includes the original parts replaced during upgrades (ie: 5-spoke 15” steel rims and MICHELIN XAS 165/HR 15 tube tires (set of 5) and spare tire cover, 3-spoke 16” steering wheel, shift knob and F + R stabilizer bars).
